More than a brand, Alma Carraovejas is a family-owned collection of historic wine estates that produce iconic reference wines from Spain. Alma USA imports a selection of these premier wines from Pago de Carraovejas, Milsetentayseis (1076), Ossian, Viña Meín · Emilio Rojo and Marañones.

Stewards of the land on which these beautiful wines are made, we restore and preserve the viticulture heritage of these vineyard sites that span the Ribera del Duero, Segovia, Ribeiro and Madrid regions of Spain. Always sustainably grown, hand-harvested and fermented with indigenous yeast, our commitment to quality has never wavered.

The first winery to introduce gravity-only transport in the Ribera del Duero, innovation and precision agriculture define this product.     A reference wine from the Ribera del Duero, Pago de Carraovejas (PDC) is an expressive and balanced wine recognizable by its violet aromatics, integrated dark fruit and ripe berry flavors and subtle spiced notes. Aged 12-months in extra-fine grain oak followed by another 12 months in the bottle.

Anejón

    Produced only in exceptional vintages, Anejón is full of rich minerality – representative of the special, limestone sloped terraces on which it is grown. Structured and vibrant with nuanced flavors of dark berry, floral and cassis and subtle chocolate undertones. Aged 18 months in extra-fine grain French oak followed by 30 months in the bottle.

Cuesta de las Liebres

  • 100% Tempranillo

    A radical wine at its core grown on the estate´s most coveted slope and produced only in exceptional vintages. Powerful, firm, round and full of nuanced dark, ripe fruit flavors in perfect balance with sweet spice, chocolate and mineral notes. Aged 30 months in extra-fine grain French oak followed by 18 months in the bottle.

The ancestral vineyards of Milsetentayseis (1076) are an integral part of the Alma Carraovejas commitment to restore centenary vines and to capture the essence of this extreme environment. At 1,076 meters above sea-level – the highest vineyard in the Ribera del Duero and to which the vineyard owes its name – this project is defined by its most differentiating characteristic: its altitude.

    75–100-year-old vines

    A gracefully bold wine that showcases a creamy, luxurious palate and finely polished tannins that provide both structure and length. An abundance of dark fruit and ripe berry flavors show at its core complimented by balsamic and candied lavender notes, smoky minerality and a toasted walnut and spice finish. Aged 18 months in French oak and 12 months in the bottle.

One of the oldest, ungrafted pre-Phylloxera vineyards in Europe and the first certified organic vineyard in the region, Ossian produces authentic Verdejo from Segovia (VT de Castilla y León). Ancestral bush vines ranging from 100-250 years-old add exceptional flavor concentration and minerality, while lees-ageing in mature oak imparts a luxurious, creamy texture to these unique Verdejo wines.

    Balanced, fresh, round and flavorful with vibrant citrus, pear and apple fruit flavors, exotic herbal and wet stone notes and a clean, lemon-vanilla finish. Aged 9 months on the lees in both stainless steel and mature oak followed by 12 months in the bottle.

Ossian

  • 100% Verdejo · 150+ year-old vines

    150-year-old vines produce a rich, polished and integrated white wine with deep flavors of ripe stone fruits, honeysuckle, roasted herbs and toasted vanilla spice that complement its creamy, nutty profile and mineral nuance. Aged 9 months on the lees in mature oak followed by 12 months in the bottle.

  • 100% Verdejo · 200+ year-old vines

    200-year-old vines blend depth and power in this voluminous white wine characterized by extraordinary minerality and exceptionally complex flavors of juicy citrus, baked pear, ripe melon, chamomile and honeysuckle accented by a smoky, toasted finish. Aged 10 months on the lees in mature oak followed by a minimum of 12 months in the bottle.

Capitel

Since 1988, the Viña Meín and Emilio Rojo estates have revitalized the Ribeiro DO – one of Spain’s most prolific winemaking regions dating back to the 11th Century when it was once the heart of Spanish wine production. Known for its decomposed granite “Sabrego” soil and unique landscape, these wineries produce premium wines from ancient, native varieties.

    Grown with just six bunches per vine, this exceptionally concentrated white blend combines depth, energy and elegance. Defined by its bright acidity, citrus, pear and peach flavors complement integrated notes of honey, white flowers and wild herbs with an intensely mineral finish. Aged 12 months on the lees in stainless steel followed by 18 months in bottle.

O Gran Meín Blanco

  • Treixadura · Torrontes · Albariño · Loureira · Godello · Caíño Blanco · Lado

    A well-orchestrated expression of a traditional Ribeiro white blend that infuses evocative aromas of lemon peel and pear in perfect balance with a wet-stone saltiness and lively white flower nuance. Aged 10 months on the lees in stainless steel, oak and concrete.

Defined by respect for the vineyard and the people who have dedicated centuries to preserving its history, diversity and potential, Bodegas Marañones is a mosaic of vineyards with varying slopes, altitudes, soils and landscapes. Old vines, varied terroir and the extreme continental climate of the Sierra de Gredos define the expressiveness and purity of these wines.

    30-70-year-old vines produce a vibrant, fresh wine that boasts flavors of juicy red berries, wild herbs, flowers and balsamic with hints of sweet spice. Smooth tannins provide finesse and longevity. Aged 10 months in mature oak followed by 12 months in the bottle.

Picarana

  • 100% Albillo Real

    30-70-year-old vines produce a fresh, balanced and flavorful expression of Albillo Real, known for its minerality. Notes of jasmine, white flowers and herbs prevail with a hint of salinity to round out the finish. Aged 10 months on the lees in mature oak followed by 12 months in bottle.

Marañones

  • 100% Grenache

    50-70-year-old vines produce a bright, ruby Grenache with wild herb, flower and crunchy red fruit flavors. Sharp tannins add structure to this full-bodied wine.

    Aged 12 months in mature oak followed by 12 months in bottle.
